23 CommentsThat’s right. culture|garage members, Palmer, JK and myself (Chris) will be fielding a team to compete in September’s 24 Hours of LeMons. We don’t have a car (yet), but we do have a plan. If you have been living under a rock for the past couple of years 24 hours of LeMons is a 24 hour race of beaters that were purchased for under $500. As for the title of this entry, a modest proposal was sent to Jalopnik, challenging them to a duel of the blogs. But I never heard anything back.
AutoBlog, got called out, because, well, they like to rip off our ideas.
I mean, I clearly associated the new CAFE standards with School House Rock. My entry from four days prior vs. their entry.
EDIT: Ok, so they beat me to it. Here I thought I was all clever, view the comments for AutoBlog’s link.

I am partial to the crazy Canadians and their goofy accents. Not only is the man shirtless, but he refuses to wear a helmet, “because it will shake my head to hard.” But the fun doesn’t stop there, Motive Magazine has compiled a best of list. You can probably guess what number one is; if your guess included rednecks, Budweiser and, f**k yeah–then you were correct.

TopGear reports that German authorities are not very pleased with Michael Schumacher. You probably remember reading that he got a little pissed of that he was being driven too slowly to the airport. So he took over the cab and hauled ass to the airport. Police are now looking into it and will be questioning Schumacher and his taxi driver. And an aside: how the hell did he fit his forehead in a helmet?

Forbes just released their list of 10 ten vehicles with the best resale value. Someone must be losing their job soon, because I have no idea how a Cadillac made the top ten list for best residual value.
1. BMW M6, $99,100, residual value after five years: 48%
2. Cadillac Escalade, $54,670: rv 48%
3. Chevrolet Corvette Z06, $69,175: rv 48%
4. Honda Civic Si, $21,090: rv 48%

Oops there goes gravity. Spotted somewhere in PA. Guess the winds were a little high. Guess the the sign was a little loose. Guess the benz caught the brunt of it. But hey, they leave the light on for you.

So yeah. I thought it was odd when I spotted a F430 covered in grime and salt sitting in the Whole Foods parking lot in Minneapolis. Eurospek, a member on Saab92x.com and culture|garage, submits pictures of a Carrera GT covered in winter’s finest. But I guess if you threw some Nokians on it, in combination with a mid-mount engine and low cg you would have no problem. And the rest of the pictures, here, look like it was somewhere in Russia. Interesting.

ABC in Dallas, reports that enforcement officers will now have a new tool to combat tailgaters. They say that 12% of all accidents can be attributed to not enough distance between cars. This laser gun (also seen in Halo 3) can measure the distance between two cars. A safe follow distance is apprx two seconds. For those following closer than, two seconds, expect to get a ticket. If this works enough to deter tailgaters, perhaps I can stop buying marbles to drop out of my sunroof.

Warner and the Wachowski’s released their trailer for the much anticipated upcoming launch of the Speed Racer re-do. Speed Racer was (and should have remained) a 60’s Japanese cartoon. The trailer looks super weird. About the only redeeming factor the movie seems to have is the cast of characters. Surprised that they were able to get such a cast for what will surely be a direct to DVD movie.
Emilie Hirsch stars as Speed Racer, you would recognize him from Lords of Dogtown and In to the Wild
Christina Ricci, yes she is hot
Susan Sarandon, I had no idea she was still alive
Matthew Fox, the doc from Lost
John Goodman, yeah, the guy from Rosanne
