I hate to pick on people, because we all make mistakes, but this is just too much. A guy on a Tampa car forum had his friend’s dad put 75w90 transmission fluid in his 2002 WRX, and apparently the motor didn’t like that heavy goop in there. Yes, I said motor.
The result was a spun rod bearing and a deflated sense of self worth.
Did I mention the guy has a Calvin pissing on ricers avatar? He also “Eats RICErs For Lunch.”
How did he not notice “transmission fluid” printed on the bottle before it went in his engine? How did he not notice the exorbitant $11 per quart pricetag? The world may never know.
Continue after the jump for more priceless quotes.
The guy initially says that Redline 75w90 was recommended by several people online, then puts the blame on his friend’s mechanic dad.
“…crap it is a tranny oil…my friends stupid dad mechanic said it was freaking fine……it’ll probably be a new STi motor…or that H22 Turbo Civic…or sell/trade my suby and use the money for a down payment to get another subaru……I was misledded into putting the wrong oil and now I’m facing the consequences……I should’ve asked you guys but back then I didn’t know.”
Well dude, I wish you the best on your upcoming rebuild, and in the future please do some research before you mod your vehicle!

I don’t know. I was waiting to post it in case it turned out to be a joke…I don’t think it’s a joke.

It must have run really well in 150+ degree heat. Preventing oil burning FTW!

“…well its my first car, and it was my first oil change…what can you expect??…I’m a noob”
Uhhh, I am very confident that I did not put trans oil in my motor the first time I did an oil change. In fact I bet most people don’t do that either.

75W-90 gear oil is the same real viscosity as 10W-50 motor oil, but the high pressure additives in gear oil will destroy babbit bearings. He must have run that stuff for a while to get that kind of damage. Noob…..
