Chevy recently released this official teaser picture of the production 2010 Camaro.

It looks a little squinty-eyed, but muscular enough. I bet it looks even better in a color other than white.

Can it capture the success of the retro designed Mustang? Can it compete against the upcoming new Challenger? We’ll see.

It should be a fun competition to watch, especially for motorheads in this renaissance of mulletude.

Specs of the new Camaro and a shot of the official rear after the jump.

The Camaro will get similar engines as the Pontiac G8, since it shares the same platform.

V8 models will get a 360 hp 6.0L V8 engine.

I’m not sure if that engine will be an evolution of the LSX series, but that would be a logical step as the new vette and CTS-V are constantly getting upgrades and hand me down engines would fit the new Camaro nicely.

A new V8 engine with direct-injection could be shoehorned into a high-performance version (Z28? SS?) with over 400 hp on tap.

Base models for girls and rental car agencies get a venerable 3.6L V6.

  1. even though i don’t like how the big three are making these things instead of making good small cars, this looks hella nicer than the challenger. also looks less bulky than the current-gen mustang.

they pulled off a clean modern muscle car.

The Base V6 will likely be the 304hp SIDI version - and since that engine in a (heavier?) CTS give you around a 6 second 0-60 time - the “Base” Camaro should prove to be pretty darn quick.

This car should be pretty kick ass.

  3. the challenger looks way better.

  4. ^ +1

  5. I too like the Challenger better, but I think with new cars, especially these retro muscle cars, you have to see them in person before you make any judgments. I bet the new Camaro will look pretty good in person.

And that’s awesome if it gets a potent V6! Amen to that.

  6. Not that the Camaro will be light by any means but the new Challenger is essentially a stretched Charger / 300C which is already well over 4000 pounds. So in other words its going to be useless.

  7. I like the look of the new Camaro. I will withhold final judgments till I see it in person. Also, if the new Challenger is a chip off the old 300c it will be all attitude and thats where it stops. Can’t blame Chrysler for going that route especailly with a hurting bottom line.

  8. First of all, it’s pretty obvious white is not the color for this car, and i believe this is the v-6 version, hence the black grill and no emphasis on the side fins behind the door, etc. The car needs some stripes or decals, the white just looks too plain and boring. I cant wait to see the interior, I hope GM didn’t ruin it like i think they’re going to. I want some leather, coloured gauges, and not that modern overly done HVAC/radio that the concept has.
