Street racing is bad, mmmkay!

Ok, first off, I don’t speak Polish, so I am hoping our contributor, Bart can help out with this one. Here’s the news video covering the incident. The limited details I have are that the car, a Ferrari 360 Modena, was traveling at 200km/h in a 50km/h zone in Warsaw, Poland.

The driver apparently lost control and hit a bridge support. Remarkably, the driver is alive… unfortunately, the passenger is not.

Stuff like this really irritates me. I guess the driver is going to live with some immense guilt…

Some more pictures of the scene after the jump, don’t worry nothing graphic.

EDIT: trusty contributor, Bart, translates everything in the comments.  Thanks Bart!

Hummer partners with Mountain Rescue

February 29, 2008

hum3_2.jpg

Mountain Rescue is a charity group in England and Wales, their pledge, “Saving lives in wild and remote places.” Mountain Rescue is celebrating their 75th anniversary this year and Hummer is helping them arrive there in style.

The Hummer H3 was just recently released in right-hand drive layout in the UK, so to show off, GM partnered up with Mountain Rescue and gave them one (possibly more?).

They also quasi-pimped it out to help them with carrying gear and people. The H3’s are outfitted with spot lights and rocker panel protection.

Imagine how many chicks those guys get!

So what did you do today?

You know, drove my sweet ass Hummer to the edge of an embankment, rappelled 397 feet and helped some guy with a shattered tibia up the side of the mountain…

Remember the Nissan (Datsun, whatever) Z-cars? Not the current gen, natch, but the old ones, with the great styling and spirited little engines? If you are a purist, prepare for a shock- the hybrid Z ain’t some sort of twin-engined econobox, it’s nothin’ but horsepower. Pure, unadulterated vee-eight fun. Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, I know. It’s hot. Motive writes of this Volvo hot rod was meant to mimic the first Volvo, the 1927 OV4. While these are not the actual panels they are close reproductions of how the car looked. The chassis is carbon fiber, the panels were handmade, the engine is a late model T5 (turbo five cylinder), the transmission is from a 960.

Basically, this is just straight up bad ass. It was unveiled at the Volvo Museum a few days ago and will soon make its way over to the US via SEMA. More pictures and an example of what the original car looked like, post jump.

A $20,000 golf cart. WTF!?

Things like this make me want to find the closest person to me and punch them in the face. Fortunately, there is no one within arm’s distance of me. So I am typing this a blood gushes from the lacerations on my forehead due to repeatedly beating my lobe on the desk.

This obscenely tasteless display of golfing transportation was built by the ever classily named, Bad Ass Golf Carts. It’s painted Palms Green, has Gucci inserts, LCD monitors, chrome rimz, Escalade grillz and more pimptacular features.

At this point, why even bother getting something like this. Just pick up a Honda Fit to drive around the course, at least it has air conditioning. Use the extra money you save on ED drugs and hair plugs.

Also note, dude in Nascar “varsity” coat admiring it… perfect target market. (Sorry Jim!)

More ridiculous pictures after the jump.

Does anyone NOT like the GT-R?

February 27, 2008

Posted by Chris

Britain’s Fifth Gear recently got their paws on a new GT-R to test.  Their thoughts?  “We like it.  We like it a lot.”  The only main grievance the GT-R is getting, seems to be that it is almost too good and smooth.  Where cars like the GT3 are much more raw, the GT-R is more composed and automatic.

Lest you fear, Nissan understands the importance of sites like culture|garage and states like Minnesota, so they have already contacted me to set up time for me to review the GT-R.  ;)
