When I first saw this photo, I thought I was looking at some uglier version of the Evo.  Then I realized, nope, that’s actually a less uglier version of an Eclipse.  Biggest tie in with the EVO is the trapezoidal front grille, then the big ass spoiler (over non-drive wheels).  This certainly looks better than the current Eclipse and maybe guys will even consider buying it now.

However, one would think that the V6 model will come in at a similar pricepoint as the Lancer Ralliart.

  1. I remember when these first came out seeing one over $30,000USD in GT trim with leather seats and a moonroof (and of course an automatic because good luck finding anything other than a completely base one with a REAL transmission).

what a joke! My sister was looking to trade in her 2000 Eclipse GT so of course we looked at the at the time new gen. He was showing us a 4-cyl model for 24k and I just flat out said “so how slow is this piece of crap? Why shouldn’t we just go right across the street (literally) and buy a brand new Altima SE and have about a hundred more horsepower and 4-600 pounds less weight? Plus don’t even try to say that this car is more reliable than the Altima with Nissan’s 3.5 VQ engine.

At the time if I were in the market for a Mitsubishi (god help me if I ever am) I would have just gotten an Evo RS (the really base one) for 30grand instead of the bloated ugly eclipse. When that came out, then the new Galant.. I just knew things were going very quickly downhill for Mitsubishi.

Now they’re just completely below the radar now that the new Evo gained 5-600 pounds (depending on trim level) vs the previous year’s model and became a big GT car.

  2. I’ll give you that it looks better than the current Eclipse, but I really don’t like this unpainted front crossmember look going through the grille that Mitsu seems to be doing.

  3. I kinda like these newer Eclipses (Eclipsi???), even the ones with the “normal” frontend.
