Ok, on the forefront, I have seen Godfather once. And I didn’t pick up on the tie-in. So maybe I am the guy who doesn’t laugh at the joke because I didn’t “get it.” But beyond that, the ad is just stupid. Why would you say, “putting old luxury on notice” and then show the R8? If you are going to say luxury, show the A8. But I wouldn’t have even said that, maybe consider saying “sports car?” But I guess they can’t say that, because the new GT-R is going to put sports cars on notice.
Let me know what you thought, because the general thoughts seems to be that most car guys liked the spot.
Now the e-trade stuff… “and uhhh, I really underestimated the creepiness” A+

I sort of agree. I get the reference, even without being a Godfather fan myself, but that scene has been rehashed so many times that it’s become a part of pop culture. Hell, Simpsons did it…
I wasn’t a big fan of the e-trade series, but I did enjoy that one line. So far, the only commercial of the night that stuck with me was the Doritos mouse trap spot.

I think the commercial gets a point across, but I’m not sure what the R8 is. I know I would never be able to afford one. Let’s say I could, I would probably prefer something smaller. This is a market for sport-luxury or something, I just never got it. Like the M5, who really wants one of these? They are impressive, no doubt. They are big and expensive too, I just could not justify it unless I had a fleet.

I saw the Godfather is senior high school English class and didn’t catch the reference, overall the commercial was terrible, F.

Both my wife and I thought the commercial was good but you youngsters wouldn’t catch the reference. Sounds like we were right.

I’ve never seen Godfather and figured it out, but I thought the same thing, since the R8 is borderline supercar and I wouldn’t even put it near the luxury class.

This ad was one of the few ads that actually got the attention of the (rather large) football-crazed party I was at last night.
Further more, it ignited a brief conversation about Audi (which mostly consisted of drunk girls mentioning how hot “that Audi” was).
Effective advertising? I’d say so…
