We’ve all seen them, derelict beside roads and old buildings. In alleyways and junkyards alike, they sit, motionless, frozen in time, slowly, but surely, giving way to Mother Earth’s icy grasp, fading into memory. They are the cars that we once loved, cruising main, going to the beach, going to the dragstrip. They sit, rotting, until there is nothing left, or until they are scrapped, compressed and made into something else. This is the website devoted to these cars, a fitting epitaph, eulogy and obituary all rolled into one for these once fine machines: Carsinbarns.com

The site is filled with all sorts of great shots of neglected vehicles. Though the content is American, primarily iron from the ’60s and early ’70s, the stories behind each car are well worth a visit. The amateur photography also gives great perspective on each vehicle, some of which are protected by shotgun-wielding owners, others simply abandoned in remote areas. Some of the pictures do make you wonder how some of these cars came to be where they are. There are Shelbys sitting in the open, ‘Cudas on jackstands, stripped of parts, and Corvettes sinking into muddy fields, cars that have always been desirable, relegated to “junk” status.

It’s a site that is guranteed to appeal to all sorts of car fans, whether your allegiances lay with European, Japanese, or good ‘ol American autos. Go ahead and take a look, it’s like a junkyard prowl, only without the mangy dog or the tetanaus shots.

  1. cool link, thanks for the heads up. maybe i’m a softy but i don’t consider cars to be purely objects, so seeing them in this state is rather depressing, but poignantly so.

  2. I have seen some websites of “exotics” in this sort of condition. Some of them are truly awesome to see!

    Great link!
