Pomona- Tony Schumacher (no relation to the other Schumacher of the Germanic persuasion) wins the Top Fuel class at the 48th annual CARQUEST NHRA Winternationals. Schumacher’s 4.49 second run beat out teammate Cory McClenathan for the win.

Robert Hight took the Blue Oval to the winner’s circle in funny car, running a 4.861@284.39mph against Cruz Pedregon’s fast, but losing 4.879@322.50mph. After a shaky first two rounds which ended in pedalfests, Hight ran straight and true in his final matchup against his Chevrolet-bodied adversary.
Greg Anderson won in Pro Stock, beating out Jeg Coughlin in the final round. Anderson’s Pontiac GXP ran a 6.616@209.23mph pass over Cobalt racer Coughlin’s 6.638@208.42mph.
Daytona- Jimmie Johnson has qualified on pole during last weekend’s sessions, narrowly beating out Michael Waltrip’s Toyota and the third place Chevrolet driven by Joe Nemechek. Johnson recorded a 48.109-second lap, besting Waltrip’s 48.197 and Nemechek’s 48.258 laps.

Perennial NASCAR fat guy bad boy Tony Stewart and fellow driver Kurt Busch are now serving out a six-race probation imposed on them by NASCAR officials for violations of the NASCAR rulebook. The incident occurred during the final practice session Friday night when Busch was hit by Stewart’s car, causing damage to both vehicles. In retaliation, Busch sideswiped Stewart several times. Stewart, being the bigger of the two men, used his car to block Busch from returning to the garage by blocking the entrance with his day-glo orange Monte Carlo. Although probationary status doesn’t carry much weight within NASCAR, if either driver commits another infraction, NASCAR officials say they will “take action.” Watch yer butts, Stewart and Busch, or you might have to sit in the corner… and then turn left.
