Phoenix- The NHRA will be holding the Checker-Schucks-Kragen Nationals this coming weekend at Firebird International raceway. Be sure to tune in to ESPN2 from 7-10 PM ET to watch the eliminations.

Daytona- Ryan Newman is the official winner in a last-minute dash for the checkers at the Daytona 500 this weekend, beating out the likes of Toyota-driving Tony Stewart, who finished #3 overall.
“To lead the most laps like that, it breaks your heart,” Stewart said. Newman, driving a Charger-bodied Dodge, brings home the first win in a long time for the Mopar crowd. Toyota and Dodge were dominant throughout the race, although Chevrolet and Ford were competitive. Race favorite Dale Earndhardt, Jr ended up finishing ninth, and Greg Biffle rounded out the top ten. Although Newman’s victory was indeed sweet for the driver, his crewchief had much to be thankful for as well. Roy McCauley’s wife had been diagnosed with cancer a year to the day of the win. Commenting on the situation, McCauley said, “I give my wife a lot of credit. She’s kind of my rock with wings, if you want to call it that.”
Say what you will about NASCAR, but winning, especially the Daytona 500 in circumstances like that, takes dedication.
