Question of the Week

It was recently found that in a study based on sales data, white is the most popular color for vehicles in the U.S., beating out former frontrunner, silver, for the title. This begs the question: What’s the color you prefer on your vehicle?

Beyond the massive preponderance of white vehicles out there, there have to be some favorites among you, our readers. There’s a heckuva lot to choose from, including Pontiac’s Orbit Orange, Subaru’s World Rally Blue Mica, Ford’s Highland Green, or Audi’s Brilliant Red, to name a few.

Personally, I’m partial to Grabber Orange, or British Racing Green, depending on the vehicle in question. I think any self-respecting Chevelle looks great in Marlboro Maroon w/ black SS stripes, while a Shelby isn’t a Shelby (to me) unless it’s Wimbledon White with Guardsman Blue stripes. So what say you?

  1. Ya gotta love Harlequin Golfs!

  2. depends on the car, but i’m most partial to a midnight blue or a british racing green.

  3. Subaru Rally Blue. Fell in love with it at first sight.

    Also love Saab Lightning Blue.

  4. Black = teh sex

  5. Honda’s Championship White.

  6. I’m a massive, massive fan of lots of Mazda paints.

Whitewater Pearl Metallic –seen on the Mazdaspeed6, Mazdaspeed3 (07-08 in Canada, 08+ in the states), RX-8, and Mazda5. As the name suggests, it’s a pearlescent white.

Velocity Red Mica –has a brilliant gold/green metallic flake –seen on the speed6, MX-5, RX-8.

Spicy Orange Mica –my favourite orange car paint ever, again because of an amazing pearlescent mica.

Of course I gotta give it up for Sunlight Silver Metallic (paint code 22V). It has a nice metallic lustre and a depth most silvers lack.
billions of photos of it at http://www.flickr.com/photos/clauretano

  7. I’m simple, Subaru’s Crystal Grey Metallic.

  8. I don’t know if I could choose just one color. It really depends on the car it’s going on. Different cars are going to look better in different colors.

I suppose if I had to choose one, I’d say I tend to like a dark grey metallic over other options, but it’s really dependent on the car in question.

  9. Arctic Silver Metallic.

or British Racing Green on a Lotus.

  10. @kansei- I am really partial to Spicy Orange as well. In fact, I lookedat a mazdaspeed protege in that color in the denver area. Thanks for the replies!

  11. Totally agree with Chris… Honda’s Championship White is beautiful, my favorite color at the moment.

I never used to like white, but it’s become my top color over the past year. I’m somewhat surprised to hear that it’s the favorite color for the rest of the country/world too. I wonder if that’s really the case, or is it rather due to the huge numbers of fleet/rental cars?

The line from the article saying that people are buying white because it gives them “the ability to add a level of customization or flair “… I find that hard to believe. Are people who customize their car considering white so they can add the names of their (desired) sponsors? Racing graphics? FLAIR? And is your average customizer/tuner really buying that many new cars? Seems a bit of a stretch to me.

    At any rate… go white!
