Gainesville Raceway, Gainesville, Fla.- The ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals is coming up, March 13-16. This is the East Coast season opener and the first runnings of Pro Stock bikes. Pro Stock bike is perhaps the last true “stock engine” category, with different makes actually running engines associated with their respective brands. See it on ESPN2, with qualifying being shown from 1-3AM Eastern on March 16, eliminations being shown 6-PM Eastern on March 16, and a repeat of eliminations being shown2-4 AM Eastern on March 19.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Las Vegas- The UAW-Dodge 400 was a show the Blue oval camp won’t forget, with Carl Edwards bringing his Ford Fusion into victory lane. The victory at Vegas brings back-to-back back flips for Edwards, who won the Auto Club500 last weekend. Camry driver Tony Stewart managed to double down at LVMS, kissing the wall twice in nearly the same fashion. The jarring impact aggravated slight injuries from the previous wreck, but Stewart managed to walk from both wrecks. Jeff Gordon had a pirouette-into-wall incident late in the race when he lost traction coming out of turn two and ending up smacking the inside wall of the back straightaway. As a result, Gordon was knocked out of the race and his radiator gained some time on national television. After that impact, there is no doubt that NASCAR will install their “safer barriers” on infield walls as well. Much credit goes to the various safety equipment manufacturers for allowing all to finish the day on their feet. Dale Earnhardt, Jr., took second place for Chevrolet, while Greg Biffle brought his fusion in at the third spot. It seems as if Jack Roush and Co. are liking the new “car of, erm, today” after all.
