Thanks to reader, Chet, for sending this one through. He spotted this on Honda-Tech and thought it would be a good one to share with the masses. The poster was installing some new struts and coilovers and his OEM bumpstops had decayed. So rather than paying $20 each, he made a trip to Pet Smart and picked up a Kong. If you aren’t a dog owner, a Kong is pretty much the most bad ass toy a dog could ever have… to a lay person it’s hard red rubbery plasticy thingy that you stuff peanut butter in. Anyways, he chopped it all up, drilled and did some other stuff and then managed to have them work out as bump stops. Pretty cool. Or something like that.

Yeah- if yer gonna spend some serious scratch on parts, why scrimp on the small things? I think Bart pegged this one just right.

Don’t know if you guys read the thread, but its not so much that they’re cheap. Its mostly the pursuit of a more durable part…

Whatever- you ain’t gonna be catchin’ me hot-rodding a Honda…

yeah i dunno, you really shouldnt need a more “durable” bump stop, unless you have an excessively lowered car, and in that case you have another issue you should take care of first…

Without getting to much into Honda suspension geometry, let me just say that suspension travel isn’t quite as abundant as what some of you may be used to, especially with the older EF CRXs and Civics such as this one. This guy isn’t running on his bumpstops or anything, he’s just pushing his suspension travel to the limits while on the track. Also, keep in mind that the older double-wb Hondas CAN be “excessively” lowered with much consequence (other than hitting bumpstops)…

I don’t think it’s rice, it’s just enginuity. A bumpstomp is just hard rubber. I mean how often do you hit them? I don’t think I ever have.

now his suspension will be minty fresh
