What car related thing did you do this weekend?

Well pretty much every weekend has been some sort of automotive adventure or another. I bought a 1994 Saab 900 to use as a rallyx/Home Depot runner. Picked it up for $600 because it came with a fubared clutch. A few weekends of laying on cold concrete (in Minnesota) and it is now up and running, thanks to friend and LeMon’s co-driver, Jessop. I guess there is just something fulfilling about having your hands all cut up and stained with oil and grease. Make you feel all manly.

Anyways, this weekend the local euro board, which caters mainly to VW’s had another studio session. A local photographer allows the use of his warehouse studio, people were doing everything from front end swaps to oil changes to debadging.

Me? Oh I attempted to put together the rally lightbar creation for an upcoming night TSD rally. A few more pictures after the break…

The most car-related thing I did this weekend was convert my Colnago to a single speed. I did it in the garage, though. Does that count?

I went and checked out the Minneapolis car show. Godzilla was there. My friends and I decided that the R8 is a car that is pretty, but is a car that would probably be bought just to drive around and look pretty. The GTR looks like a car that will just tear your face off. Either way, I’ll take either of the cars, and be much obliged.

I decided that I will be buying a modded Subaru in the summer. Now I just have to figure out what events I will attend.

I ran my 84′ 911 in a PCA sponsored Auto Cross Skills event. Got her on three wheels on the skid pad and broke 0-60 in 5.0 flat.

This weekend we continued stripping down our 1990 Miata that we got for $450. The original plan was to enter it at Pahrump LeMons, but that prestigious event was recently canceled. The first weekend was spent sizing up the project and tuning the engine a bit. This weekend we stripped out the seats and carpeting. Next up is probably taking out the A/C and power steering, or maybe we’ll finish taking out the center console. We got out of the cold a couple years ago (Michigan - UP) and are now out in Oakland CA where the concrete is warm and even the motor oil smells like roses.

sadly the most car related thing i did this weekend was actually drive my car. i never get a chance. i broke a personal record driving from philadelphia to nyc in 1 1/2 hours.
