Being that I work in advertising, I am a big fan of AdRants, an blog all about the absurdity of advertising. While I was perusing it today, I came across these regional ads for Aston Martin of New England.
It’s a quick read and you easily see what they are trying to do. The humor and wit is funny. But it doesn’t really “fit” the brand. Regardless, I thought you would enjoy it. Two more after the jump.

Wow. Very nice. Good proportions, use of white space and balance. Are these supposed to run in newspapers or regional enthusiast mags? I hope they get it to the right audience. It appears that it could work well for a non-enthusiast reader.

I see the mom/milf one as a good idea, because it is trying to attract a non-traditional buyer. The others don’t do it for me.

Definitely too low-brow for Aston Martin in my opinion. Not that I would ever be sophisticated enough for an Aston Martin, but you know what I’m sayin’

I don’t see this ad campaign as being effective. Humorous as it may be, Astons aren’t bought by your average consumer.
That’s before I even mention that the V8 Vantage isn’t as good as the 911 despite costing and the styling is half hearted, since it just looks like very other Aston.
And I agree with John.

Hence my comment in the write up, “it doesn’t really fit the brand.”

So now you expect me to read what you write instead of just looking at the pretty pictures?
Seriously, Christopher, sometimes you ask too much.

I like them. I think the purpose of these particular adds is to go after a “non-traditional” buyer. It’s very rare to see pricing in any luxury car advertising (especially leasing).
It’s the old, “if you have to ask, you can’t afford it”. However, there are a lot of people who can easily afford $1500 a month for a lease and may never have even considered an Aston before; this type of advert could hook them in.

I own a Vantage and I think it’s hilarious, but will it sell more cars, ahh nope.
More likely the dealer is going to end in trouble from Aston Martin UK for this ad campaign.
