Pontiac’s G(8)-Spot

Ok, yeah, I know, the title was quite a bit sophomoric. Spot is ad-jargon for a tv commercial. I couldn’t help myself, it was just sitting there like a baseball on a tee.

So here is the deal, Leo Burnett has been around for ages, it’s a big ass ad agency who has brought you some brand icons… i.e. the Marlboro Man. I have never been a huge fan of their current slew of automotive work…until I saw this.

A few things:

1. The Pontiac G8 is a pretty mean looking car (I mean the front wheel arches are massive)

2. This spot does well to inject some much needed youth into the brand and this really identifies with the market

If you don’t recognize the context of this… you probably aren’t in the target market, but this is based (very well) around the arcade game, Spy Hunter. Watch and enjoy.

Sorry for all the advertising-centric posts; it’s my career (and passion).

  1. I thought this was one of the best car spots I have seen in the past few years.

At 28, I am probably at the start of their target demographic. This was my favorite game to play in arcades and its a good memory to conjure up.

  2. That was great!

It’s almost like GM cares again.

  3. I was wondering when you were going to write about this add. I saw it, thought it was great and said to myself “self, I bet Chris posts this up”.

  4. omg this is awesome

  5. My friend at Midway Games was asked to be lead designer on this game. Should be awesome.
