Texas Motor Speedway, Ft. Worth- Ear-to-ear grin on his face, Carl Edwards accepted the trophy for his win at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, his third win of the season. It seems as if the soft-spoken former substitute teacher is making his mark this year, penalties or not. Edwards’ win at Texas was accomplished with a backup crew chief, Chris Andrews, who is filling in for usual Chief wrencher, Bob Osborne, who was put on suspension by NASCAR for a loose oil tank lid found in post-race inspection in Atlanta. Edwards’ win was by no means by a narrow margin, as he maintained a huge lead in his Roush-Fenway Ford, but NASCAR golden boy Jimmie “The Lowe’s Kid” Johnson took his Chevrolet to a second-place finish, .399 sec. behind “Cousin Carl.” Up until a late-race caution, Edwards had achieved an almost ten-second lead over Johnson, who seemed to be low on fuel in the closing laps. “The tires on the car were just slippery enough that the car was fun to drive,” Edwards said post-race. Kyle Busch took his Toyota into a very respectable third spot as the top two cars ran away from the rest of the field. Congratulations are in order for Edwards and crew, as their team is the leader this season in wins, especially considering that they are shorthanded without Osborne, though Andrews is proving to be very capable in his temporary position. “This one’s for Bob!” Edwards shouted after exiting his car in victory circle, which was proceeded by the customary backflip in the infield.
