This is incredible!  This was just sent to me by my friend Andy.  He just received the below in an email from one of his friends (the owner and driver of the above car)

So yes, if you need to ask, that was my car. I left shortly after 1pm yesterday to head up to scooterville to pick up my new scooter but I didn’t make it very far. I was driving north on 35w and I was behind a Semi truck that was hauling a load of flattened cars. Immediately after passing under the 62 bridge a large object came directly at my windshield and slammed right through it as I was going about 55-60mph. I assumed it was something from this guys load but after I had a chance to pull my composure together and pull over I looked back at the bridge to notice drainage pipes on the sides of the bridge, at least one of which was missing. As it turns out the truckers load that he was hauling was too tall and he hit the bridge as he drove under it knocking off one drainage pipe and after mndot inspected the bridge they realized he had almost knocked a second one off as well. They had to close down at least one lane of 35 for a little while so they could inspect the bridge and make sure there was no structural damage. I am told the driver will most likely lose his license, every person that arrived on the scene and saw my car could not believe that I only suffered minor cuts and scratches from the glass and I am told (not that I couldn’t tell you this myself), that had it come through the driver’s side I would not be here to type this. The pipe weighed what I would guess is about 100-150lbs and it completely tore out the center console in the car including the stereo, heating and cooling instruments, vents and whatever else. The gigantic steal pipe hit my leg a little but it had stopped enough that I didn’t really notice until I saw the rust on my leg. The entire inside of the car was covered in broken glass from front to back, including me, I still have a piece or two in me.

  1. wow. i’m glad that he’s ok, and like everyone else, absolutely amazed that he’s practically unscathed. i always try to give trucks a wide berth but sometimes you can’t prevent these things from happening.

  2. Glad this wasn’t more serious. That pipe is thick! It looks like what happened in the last Matrix movie when the twins were jumping from car to car on the highway.
