Yankee buys Bimmer: Bavarians Pissed

Ever heard of an IHLE Sports Roadster? No? Neither had many others, as only 4 were known to exist. However, one lucky “big ugly” American recently purchased one of the rare cars, much to the chagrin of the hotshots over at BMW. The car, a robin’s-egg blue roadster, was sold in Amsterdam, Holland for an undisclosed amount, and was shipped to O’Hare airport for a “mere” $15,000. “Within 48 hours I had 72 e-mails from people in Europe inquiring about it,” said the car’s owner, Tom Griffith, a Verona, WI resident and car collector. According to Griffith, BMW had no idea his car existed, and tried to buy it from him even before the car had been delivered to him. Apparently, Griffith has no plans to sell- although BMW insists that it is “their” car. “They said, ‘If you are going to restore it, we want it restored correctly. This is our car.’ And they really look at it that way,” he said.

Midnight Club: Los Angeles Trailer

July 31, 2008

So it looks as if Rockstar has decided to grace the general public with an updated trailer for the upcoming Midnight Club: Los Angeles game. Looks a lot more polished than the PS2 “Dub” edition game, but if the gameplay is similar, it should be fun! For more, check out the Midnight Club website HERE.

(As an aside, expect fairly regular posts to resume in the next few weeks, currently I am moving- so I’ll do what I can for the moment. Thanks for your patience and ongoing support!)

A Datsun broke his neck

Nissan GTR on Top gear test track

Excellent video of the GTR getting romped on. By now you are probably sick of seeing videos and reading about how incredible this car is. However, TopGear always seems to one up everyone. So enjoy Jeremy having his neck broke by a “Datsun.”

I think this car has replaced the 911 C4S as my someday obtainable dream car. Plus, I have an affinity for those “Datsuns” see below.

Pastrana does a back flip above Block’s rally car.

Spotted on Gizmodo.  This Brittish artist uses remote controlled cars to apply paint to his creations.  But the automotive inspiration doesn’t stop there.  He also uses automotive tires to apply paint to the large blocks of coloring.  Check out the video above.  Then look below at the finished piece below.

What a gruelling event.  You start in Moscow.  Go through Syberia.  Head along to the capital of Mongolia…which is some city I can’t pronounce, let alone spell.  The “course” is 4,349 miles long.  And course is a relative word, watching some of the recap videos saw people lost multiple times and then just hauling across a river or marsh or desert.

But Porsche pulled off quite a feat with their special edition Cayenne S.  Of the top ten finishers, Porsche held NINE of the positions.  Regardless of what you think of SUVs you can’t deny Porsche’s prowess regardless of the surface or environment.

Check out more pictures here.  So this year I get to cross 24 Hours of Lemons off of my list of things to do… maybe next year I can knock this one off of my list.  Porsche, are you listening?

I like music. And girls.

Lately, I have been on a big kick for female musicians.  Started with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  Then Jem.  Then Frou Frou.  Then Feist (thank Apple. And apparently, also Sesame Street–view the above video).  All from back in the “day.”  But lately, The Ting Tings have been getting some massive play time on my iPod.  So who is on your chick rock list?

And yes, this isn’t directly related to cars.  But I don’t care.
