The Alfa 8C Competizione. Probably the finest Alfa-Romeo to come out of Italy- it flows, it’s powerful, and it is the sweetheart of many auto-journos worldwide. In fact, Alfa-Romeo has a proud history of being the heartthrob of any and all car enthusiasts who hate themselves enough to go through the perpetual struggle that is an Alfa. So what about you? Could you give up your STi for one?

Frankly, I quite fancy Alfa-Romeos. They run in my family-everyone seems to have had one at some point- Pops even had an old Spyder, the lucky so-and-so. So it comes as no surprise that the 8C is on my short list of cars I must own. Plus, the marked unreliability has basically been solved, without losing too much of Alfa-Romeo’s spirit. I mean, a quad-cam V8 breathing through quad exhausts with looks that could kill? Staggering!

Even the Alfa MiTo, a little hatchback, hearkens back to a time when cars were exciting, different, and above all, fun. You can get a bonkers 4-banger, which I’m sure revs extremely high, in the greatest tradition of Italian engines. Heck, it even offers a lo-po version of the standard 4-pot that puts out 78 HP, just for young drivers. The interior beats the hell out of a GTI, and appears to be made of manna…scrumptious.

I could lay out the entire lineup here, but I can’t bring all of this joy to you- thus I send you HERE to experience the magic that is Alfa-Romeo. Oh, and notice that there is but ONE spot in the entirety of North America to find Alfas, and it appears to be a subsidiary of a Maserati dealer. However, if reports such as THIS ONE are true, we in the States will be able to appreciate the Alfa, too. So the question of the week is thus- Would you buy an Alfa if they do indeed make their way stateside? My answer? An unequivocal yes. In rosso red. Please. What say you?

Not trading in my STi, but they always turn my head. Also, if they do come stateside - it would depend heavily on who can work on them and how the pricing works out. I’m still hoping a Lotus may be my next purchase at this point.
The first picture of this entry made my jaw drop. Beautiful!

The first car looks like an Italian restyle of a Pontiac Solstice coupe…. i like…
And I agree that the issue of who will work on them will be a big issue. They are italian cars afterall…
