Really late Question of the Week

Guys…I am so sorry. While I was being a GIAN douchebag packing for my move, I have been completely neglecting my duties- which are minimal, to say the least. Suffice it to say that I apologise to the readership and hope that you keep reading (and responding to) the articles we all write here. Anyhow, this week’s question has to do with mostly ‘Merican iron, although other makes/models have found their way into this facet of cardom.Pro Street was all the rage when I was a kid. It was about monochromatic paint, big steamroller ET Streets out back and a tweed interior. It was where Pro Stock met Street Machines, only to birth one of the craziest trends in rodding. In short, if you had a carb hat poking through the hood and a nasty rake in the ’90s, you had something hot.

Shortly after the Pro Street craze lost some steam, the Pro Touring thing became all the rage. This trend has been the benchmark for top car builders since 1999 or so, and makes use of big wheels, minimal ornamentation, and a low, low stance. Air Ride, leather interiors and built-in handling temper the straight-line zaniness of the old Pro Street cars, making Pro Touring more for autocross v. drag racing.

With that bit of background out of the way, I now ask you: what do you see as the next big trend in hot rodding? Do you think the green thing will cause a spate of clean-burning musclecars? Will mudders and gun racks end up as the next big thing? Howsabout a return to psychadelic paint jobs? I actually think “traditional” stuff like Cragars, Hedman hedders and vintage-appearing stickers and paint jobs will become the norm. Just like traditional hot rods have become extremely popular, I believe that the resto set will see traditionally “hopped-up” musclecars as acceptable, just as many classic car purists see trad hot rods. Anyway, enough with my babbling, What say you?
