Car fanboi’ism number 1: shitty videos

First in a series, Car Fanboi'isms; annoying things over zealous car guys do to flaunt their awesomeness (generally on forums or blogs).

You thought it was bad once everyone started buying high end digital cameras and instantly everyone thought they were Ansel Adams. OMG, post an HDR of your Subaru!

Then digital video cameras became the rage. OMG, check out my Jetta on airbags!

So now rather than dealing with 100s of crappy obscure angle pictures of sub-par looking cars with tint and lame wheels, you now see videos of these same cars.

So how do you make a good fanboi video of your car?

1. now that you have a camera, you are Stanley Kubrick

2. use lots of obscure fx

3. carry the camera at odd angles

4. have a shitty car

5. use techno music or something that references hardcore drug usage

6. feature random things (i.e. a trash can, flowers, your shoes)

7. pan (a lot)

8. use forward/reverse/slo mo (a lot)

9. drive a VW

10. hang out in parking lots (a lot)

To demonstrate, I made the above video using my 1995 Saab 900 loaner car, while my car is in the shop having coil-overs installed. You will notice, I have utilized many of the above techniques.
