Esquire has a VW and Wilco fetish
Esquire recently released a list of top ten car commercial songs. Apparently, they have quite a fetish for VW and/or the (highly overrated) band Wilco. Five of the top ten songs were from VW ads featuring Wilco. I am not a huge fan of Wilco, but I do like the above ad featuring their song, Either Way.
The list was pretty good, but John Mellencamp? Seriously? I agree, with the Ford Edge commercial, Band of Horses, ftw.
I made a short list of ones I felt should have made it and embedded them post jump any other ones I missed?
VW Jetta: J. Ralph, One Million Miles Away

How the hell did this one not make the list!?

The cabrio commercial is far and away the best car commercial i’ve ever seen. Amazingly shot.
I remember reading years ago that spot alone boosted Cabrio sales for VW like 10% or something crazy.

I agree with both of your vdub choices.. I’m shocked that they picked so many vdub commercials but left those two out.
The cabrio commercial is so, so good. I have the pink moon album just for that song, and yes I will only listen to it while driving in my car, at night, with the windows open (stupid protege5 not being a convertible lol)

Keep in mind these are the best car commercial SONGS. Not best car commercials. I can do a “Chris’ list of top car commercials” at some point.

I <3 the Cabrio commercial. I remember seeing that before I could drive, and it made me want a car that much more (albeit not a Cabrio).
