Ford CEO’s mantra, Yes we can
Ford is going to get scrappy, and their CEO, Alan Mulally, plans to lead the charge. Sure a generous bailout was approved, but Ford has opted to not suckle on the credit teat. This is a strong branding effort for them as it will help differentiate them from Chrysler and GM.
Everyone one roots for the underdog and if Ford can pull through this without grabbing on to those bailout dollars, they will become much stronger in the public's eyes.
But how are they going to do it? For one thing, greener cars, a la the Fusion hybrid and as they said at NAIAS, the electrification of their cars. And secondly, better cars. Check out edmund's write up on the new 2010 Taurus. Picture below, courtesy Edmunds.

Great aspirations but the federal teat will be in Ford’s mouth before the year is up.
Ford is making the right moves for its lineup (though late in the game) but its predicted sales for this year is unrealistic.
