“it felt like the whole house was going to blow up”
So this guy, who sounds like Tony Soprano, has a CTS-V. He wants to throw a big turbo on it. In preparation, he adds a new catback, some fuel and ignition management, etc. He then invites his Lambo owning friend over to video tape him starting it up. Upon start up he proceeds to blow the cats out of the car. Nice! And the last comment of the video is classic.

I have to disagree with the above that ‘The last comment is the best’
I believe the best comment to be when he first comes out of the garage.
‘That dust cannot be good for you’
‘I know, that’s why I got a beer!’
As for a comment on the video, I know nothing about cars so I will assume that is bad.

Catback? That means it still has stock converters on it. Is this guy dumb? The converters should have been removed to begin with. Add larger injectors and fuel pump, and you would be home free.
IDIOT has no clue what he is doing except how to send money.

Appears to be running just a *little* rich. (e.g. dumping huge amounts of raw fuel which eventually collects on the cats where it’s burning.) Agree, too, that two plugs were probably reversed during reinstall.
I can’t understand why he’d continue to run it while it’s clearly doing damage, other than for the laughs.
But look on the bright side. When he finally gets the fuel management sorted out, it’ll breathe a lot better with those cats opened up. Emissions test is going to be exciting, though.

I once crossed a couple of plug wires on an 80’s Chavelle (SP?). Blew the ends of the muffler right off. Scared the shiznite outta everyone, including myself

He’ll just buy another if it gets trashed. His friend “drives a lambo” if you believe that = money to burn.

He should scoop that stuff up instead of throw it out, as it’s either got palladium ($380 oz), or platinum ($1,500 oz) in it. He can then repair his car with the money.
what a dork

first thing you do is open up the exhaust.

Think about it, if you had just done all these mods and on the first start saw things flying out the exhaust, you would IMMEDIATELY shut down and inspect it like you guys said. So obviously the cats were damaged on purpose to open them up (I used to do it to my vette’s by removing them and running a crowbar through them then shaking)for better airflow. This is not an accident, just a pretty cool vid of CAT detruction. Also Tony while there is some precious metals there, most of it is ceramic.

I hope they collected that Cat metal.
I hear that stuff is really rare and expensive.

@norm and jack - LS1s are coil on plug, and even though he relocated them it’s still got one coil per cylinder, none of that distributor bullshit. Pretty hard to fuck up. I’m pretty sure if he can install an AEM low impedance injector driver and still have the car run, he’s not stupid enough to mix up the coil order.
@Frank - You can still make plenty of power with cats. As long as your AFRs are tuned correctly, the cats will work fine. High flow cats lose at most 8whp, most of the time less.
And if cat material was rare/expensive, I’m pretty sure every vehicle on the market wouldn’t have them.

Nice vid.lol.
Some stupid remarks made here also. shit happens when you play with Gig P Toys.
As for the platinum in the cats. YES they have some. and Its VERRRRY little. Not enough to cash in. Its only misted on the ends of the cats and liners. Not a complete piece.

Just something I noticed. Before he starts the car up, part of the catalyst is already on the ground behind each exhaust pipe. So I’m assuming that he started it up once and heard it start exploding. Then shut it off. And that’s when the video came in for the next start up. Could be wrong, but that’s what I see.

so.for the amount of money that he just wasted, he could have gotten himself AT LEAST a Porsche Boxster S, which would actually beat a Vette - at least on a track. Probably not so much on straight line acceleration (BORING), or the Tesla Roadster.
Yay for us - more money for us. Yippee - a new couch and free TV for a year. Sucks to be on his team.

funny If i had to take a guess.. too much fuel def. (look at the black smoke) .. but mostly crazy timing retardneeds to set up his ignition control and fuel. or better yet, get on a dyno to tune everything. However, as stated before he most likely has money to burn it the motor goes POP!

I made this vid. Jeff mixed up two of the wires for the coils when he relocated them. The turbo IS NOT on the car yet. He could care less about the cats, or the motor since a new motor is going in, and the cats will be replaced by the downpipe/Y-pipe. The car ran for about 20 seconds when he first started it after rewiring everything, and thats when the cats first came apart (you can see them on the ground at the very beginning of the vid). We were extremely surprised how quickly they blew apart. Never would have thought that could happen so fast, but believe me, IT DID. Check my other vids on YouTube by Turbo50Mike.

Porsche boxters suck dude, they can’t beat any ‘vette. they have either 245 or 295 HP.. even mustang GTs have more HP than they do.. so learn something before you talk about crap you don’t know.

Blowing the catalytic converters had nothing to do with adding a turbo. The turbo wouldn’t be spooling with the engine idling (especially one that large) and wouldn’t have produced any boost. Now the changes to the engine management on the other hand
