Japanese Car Culture

Car culture is a cool thing. It's really our thing, and so it's appropriate that we scour the 'net for the best sources of car culture. This is not restricted to U.S. shores, however- we look far and wide for snippets of vehicular good times for you, our readers. Indulge in a little of the Japanese version of automotive entertainment after the jump.

Car shows are a popular pastime worldwide, as is auto racing. Whether it be stock cars at Darlington or DTM racers at the Nurburgring, people love to see cars going fast. They also enjoy seeing them at rest, including classics that recall times gone by, and models that point towards the future of the automotive industry. Today's link is a collection of photos from both races and shows in Japan. In the various galleries, you can take in the sights through the camera lense, and gain an understanding and appreciation for the awesome iron (and aluminum, and plastic etc.) that they put together over there, as well as "imports" that illustrate their local appreciation for cars from other nations.

Although the site isn't the prettiest, the photos are hi-resolution (as far as I can tell) and are very well done. It's not artsy-fartsy, but lets you take a virtual tour of Japanese car culture. It's well worth your time (and it's a good link to visit while @ work) so take a moment and check it out HERE. There's all sorts of stuff, all of it worthwhile. Meanwhile, I'm gonna stare at that six, twelve, two, eight cylinder Nissan turbo mill (above).

I’ve been checking back a that site for years hoping he’ll start updating it again.
As for understanding the over-the-top air-dams and wings, check out Japanese Super Silhouette cars from the early ‘80s. eg http://www.auto-otaku.com/home/2008/03/coverage-nissan.html
