What happens when you mash a Camaro SS with Tupperware?

I attended the Press Event for the 2009 Autoshow @ Vancouver and Chevy gave us a preview of the Camaro SS.
I loved the last gen St. Therese-built Camaro (that's Quebec, Canada) in the 90s and after seeing it transform from a yellow sports car to a 3-storey tall robot, I thought Chevy has a winner in its hand. Well it a blippin fast car which we all know. This SS specimen MSRP's at a cool Canadian currency of $46,000. That is around the ball park of the BMW 135i pugmobile. From looks alone, this americana beats it hands down. Just look at the broad muscular shoulders! It would've given Megatron the shivers. It gobbles the 1/4 mile in flat 13 secs. So what's there not to like?

The interior is without doubt a throw back to the 70s or 60s. days when mullet were cool and still is in some parts of US of A. An era where Cuba is the ENEMY. But those days are gone. Cuba is one of the favourite destination and houses US' ENEMY. So why is Chevy saw it fit to keep this archaic ergonomically challenged design? What's with the square blocky dials and down-right insane placing of the sub-gauges below the HVAC controls?! Oh yes, to haunts us with Disco and bell bottoms? Why not just include an 8 Track? That vast expanse by the front passenger felt hollow and the glovebox crashes down. I recommend future Camaro owners to not store anything heavy in there.
Nevermind that, we can forgive it since it is supposed to be retro and there are many cars that are retro designs. But does the quality of the materials have to be of 1970's standards? Steering wheel felt hard and wooden. Every where I brush my hands on were met with hard hollow plastics. If I didn't know better, I thought the materials came from KOSS factory bins. So in this respect, I can't help but feel Chevy which could've have delivered a Royal Flush to the enthusiasts but instead settled with just a pair of Jacks SS.

Yeah, what’s not to like about it. But the ultimate question is: Can everyone afford it. I know the auto industry is one of the industries badly hit by the current financial crisis. Decrease in sales means decrease in production then ultimately it would lead bankruptcy or closure.

The keyword is EVERYONE. It doesn’t have to be. The Camaro will have limited appeal and will not be as mass-marketd as say a Cobalt or Malibu. Folks who used to have a Camaro and had to settle for other muscle-car will certainly returning to it.
I think GM is trying. They had some good products like the Malibu, Saturn Astra (by Opel) and the Holden-build G8.

Chevy won’t sell enough and have to shut down production again. Too late to change the fact that they are in the hole huge.
