When Chevy and Ford are too bourgeoise, Volvo hot rod
Yes, I know. It's hot. Motive writes of this Volvo hot rod was meant to mimic the first Volvo, the 1927 OV4. While these are not the actual panels they are close reproductions of how the car looked. The chassis is carbon fiber, the panels were handmade, the engine is a late model T5 (turbo five cylinder), the transmission is from a 960.
Basically, this is just straight up bad ass. It was unveiled at the Volvo Museum a few days ago and will soon make its way over to the US via SEMA. More pictures and an example of what the original car looked like, post jump.

Bleargh- those wheels and tires have no business on that car. Couldn’t they have taken the steelies from an old P1800 or something and thrown ‘em on? The concept is interesting, though.

Jim - those wheels are 19×8 in front and 22×10 in back. somehow i don’t think some old crusty ass steelies would do it justice.. let alone house those massive perimeter brake rotors.

I will agree the tires are ugly but the wheels are definitely sick. I love the combination of old & new; something that IMO isn’t done enough.

The T5 is icing on the cake. I’ve never seen one mounted longitudinally. Now I want to buy an old RWD Volvo and swap a nice modern T5 in (controlled via megasquirt or something).. mmm

i think the volvo T5 is mostly volvo derived, before ford took over, but porsche had a hand in making itso really who knows what the true origin of the engine is. That said, its freakin awesome looking.

The rubber looks to have the volvo insignia in it. Probably just a one-off set for this car. They could have used wheels that looked a bit more like the round wood spoked wheels of the original car, but overall it looks like they did a pretty decent job.
The T5 motor has little to no Ford in it. It was being used several years before Ford purchased Volvo.
Hot car.
