Nissan GTR on Top gear test track
Excellent video of the GTR getting romped on. By now you are probably sick of seeing videos and reading about how incredible this car is. However, TopGear always seems to one up everyone. So enjoy Jeremy having his neck broke by a “Datsun.”
I think this car has replaced the 911 C4S as my someday obtainable dream car. Plus, I have an affinity for those “Datsuns” see below.
Hello CG’ers! Sorry I’ve been away on a research project to determine any correlation between the migration of snow geese and coffee imports. But I’m back having reacquaint myself back to an old friend….

Y’all prolly know me as a pretty die-hard muscle car fan. I adore the sound of any V8, and the kick you get in the small of your back under hard acceleration is hard to beat. However, recently I have been confronted by the question of whether I could have another potential object of lust-and I have found myself wrapped around a nice little conundrum-thanks to the RX-8. On Friday 28th, I attended the Press Preview Day for the Vancouver Autoshow. Of the three top Canadian International Autoshow, the Vancouver show is perhaps the smallest one (Toronto and Montreal being the larger). The west coast is generally one of the last stops of the auto show parade. Having said that, all the major players still showed up, since after all, Vancouver is home to some of the richest population in Canada, with some sprinkling of wealthy foreigners wishing to plunk their base in a relatively calm and peaceful city.

Here’s a bit of news to whet your appetite for entertainment- Jeremy Clarkson and the crew of Top Gear will be back in about a week (at time of writing, 8 days, 14 hours, 53 minutes-ed.) with a new Top Gear special, according to the clock over at Final Gear.com! That’s right- the boys will be back, bashing America, flogging cars and generally mucking about. At this point, there haven’t been any hints of what’s coming up, but if the past is any indication, it should be good. To, uh, well, steal borrow yourself an episode, head on over to FinalGear.com and download a torrent when it is available.

Britain’s Fifth Gear recently got their paws on a new GT-R to test. Their thoughts? “We like it. We like it a lot.” The only main grievance the GT-R is getting, seems to be that it is almost too good and smooth. Where cars like the GT3 are much more raw, the GT-R is more composed and automatic.
Lest you fear, Nissan understands the importance of sites like culture|garage and states like Minnesota, so they have already contacted me to set up time for me to review the GT-R. ![]()

I want this job. Autocar tested the new GT-R vs the E92 M3 vs the Porsche GT3. The test is pretty unbiased. The GT-R and GT3 trounce the M3. The Nissan pulls quicker track times, got to 60mph and 100mph a full second ahead of the Porsche. But some good points were brought up. The GT3 is just more visceral, it’s a challenge, whereas with the GT-R it’s consistent reliable performance that any old person could get into and make fast.
My favorite quote was: “What we are saying is that a car that is made by a company that used to be called Datsun is as good as the best 911 Porsche ever made.”
The second part of the video is after the break.

Fifth Gear decided to flog the BMW 135 against the Cayman in a series of stupid tests. Test number one was about the only legitimate motorsports-esque test they ran, a standing start slalom. The 135 edged out the Cayman each time. Then they moved on to drifting… yeah drifting. The Cayman pulled out a higher drift style point count. Then it was on to track time, with a passenger, no helmets, and plenty of drifting. The 135 edged out the Cayman again.
It would be nice to see the same driver take both cars out and drive legitimate lines, I am curious as to whether the gap would narrow or expand.
