“Knockout” Redefined

It’s kinda weird. I have been on a bit of a Camaro kick lately, and it’s cars like this that keep me coming back for more. Although I am loathe to use terms like “murdered out,” I think this Camaro is the definition of the phrase. Actually, I think “knockout” is more accurate, as it is sure to have you falling all over yourself with desire upon first glance. Starting life as a complete, clean 1969 Camaro RS, the builders at G-Force Design Concepts took things a bit further, and, well- just look at it. Read the rest of this entry »

Jeremy Clarkson would probably cringe at these road tests- in fact, he probably has in one of his rants. However, back in the heyday of television and much of the car world, Bud Lindeman and Car and Track, a televised competitor with Car and Driver, wrung then-new cars out in a series of tests that are both entertaining and informative. While the music isn’t much to write home about- then OR now- the footage of these beasts being wrung out is too neat to pass up. Thus, with YouTube user “MaccalIsntDead’s” posting of these videos, we can all get a good look back in time at what cars were like brand new. The only drawback? YouTube won’t let me post ‘em here- so you’ll have to go check ‘em out for yourself. See all sorts of good stuff, like a Gremlin being put through it’s paces, or a big ‘ol Torino romping through a slalom. Enjoy!

Ever heard of an IHLE Sports Roadster? No? Neither had many others, as only 4 were known to exist. However, one lucky “big ugly” American recently purchased one of the rare cars, much to the chagrin of the hotshots over at BMW. The car, a robin’s-egg blue roadster, was sold in Amsterdam, Holland for an undisclosed amount, and was shipped to O’Hare airport for a “mere” $15,000. “Within 48 hours I had 72 e-mails from people in Europe inquiring about it,” said the car’s owner, Tom Griffith, a Verona, WI resident and car collector. According to Griffith, BMW had no idea his car existed, and tried to buy it from him even before the car had been delivered to him. Apparently, Griffith has no plans to sell- although BMW insists that it is “their” car. “They said, ‘If you are going to restore it, we want it restored correctly. This is our car.’ And they really look at it that way,” he said.

There’s a segment of the muscle car domain that breaks from the norm, in that going around corners is just as important as going fast- it’s called “pro touring.” Although they are much-hyped, Air Ride Technologies has just completed the latest “pro-tourer,” and although I am loathe to offer praise to a car built solely for marketing purposes, I have to admit, this car is (in my best preteen parlance) freakin’ awesome. Loveland, Co- A strong wind whips out to the East here, where trees are sparse and livestock outnumber people. Just West of Greeley, Colorado, the Budweiser Events Center is home to stock shows, rodeos and other agriculturally-related events. For one weekend during every summer, however, one of the largest car shows in the Rocky Mountain region takes place here- the Goodguys Colorado Nationals. C|G paid a visit to this year’s event- and it was well worth the trip. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Vette Time Capsules Found in Barn

We all have dreams of finding that amazing car, hiding under a sheet or in a back alley, a bit weatherbeaten, obviously ignored, but ripe for the taking-for the right price. For some, it’s a P 1800 far from it’s icy Swedish home, awaiting a good restoration. For others, nothing beats finding a tri-five Chevy tucked away in an old service bay. For very few, the dream comes true, and the dust-coated dropcloths come off of the cars in a flourish of history, lore and excitement. For Charlie Lillard, the dream became his in a tiny California barn. Read the rest of this entry »
