Geneva, Switz.- The venerable Ford Focus, the Falcon of the modern-day world, has had its top whacked by the folks at Pininfarina. Yep, the Italian design studio has turned an already attractive car into an even more appealing piece. And no, you can’t have one if you live in North America. Read the rest of this entry »

VW and Saab: seperated at birth?

On the left, we have the European VW Scirocco and on the right we have the Saab 9-x Bio Hybrid.  Similar in many ways.  As pictured, the Scirocco is much closer to production trim then the Saab.

So you think the ‘rocco is sweet?  Ok, move to Europe.  We won’t be getting the ‘rocco due to cannibalization.  The ‘rocco plays right at the GTI level.

BioPower seems to be all the rage, an ever growing selection of vehicles that are tuned to run on ethanol and standard gas are hitting the streets.  But that was just too easy for Lotus.  Autoblog covers off on the Lotus Exige 270E, a tri-fuel concept.  Not only does it run on gas or ethanol, but it also has the ability to run on METHANOL.  On meth it turns 270hp and 184 lb-ft.  Lotus isn’t done yet… they are also looking hybrids and electric vehicles.  Couple more picture post-jump.

Well reader, PaulH mentioned that the below micro-site for the 9-X shows the old image… Oh well. Here’s a 9-X BioHybrid image. Or quasi image. I love the word quasi. But really, who wants to take bets that nothing ever comes of this? I mean the AeroX was a cool concept. And what do we get… ummm well there are LED bulbs in the headlights of the “new” 9-3.
Further update, Autoblog has a whole slew of 9-X images.  I don’t feel like taking the time to rip them off and repost ;)

Saab quasi-launches 9-X microsite

Worst micro-site.  Ever.  My guess is they are still updating the site to reflect the launch/release/tease of the 9-X.  Feel free to check it out on Saab’s global site.  But it really isn’t worth your time, at this point.

World Car Fans is saying Saab will be showing a 9-X BioHybrid… not a 9-1x that seemed to be the talk of the industry all last week.  The concept is reported to have a 1.4liter 200bhp BioPower engine with hybrid power assistance.  You can tell that the 9-X is going to take a lot of design cues from the AeroX concept, raked back windshield, distinctive headlights, etc.

The 9-X is supposed to be officially unveiled today (Monday) at Geneva, so stay tuned for an update.

My only question, when is Saab going to stop making cool concepts and actually make a cool car?  The “new” 9-3 is quite a let down (this coming from a 9-3 owner) however, at least they finally have AWD in it.

Yes, I know. It’s hot. Motive writes of this Volvo hot rod was meant to mimic the first Volvo, the 1927 OV4. While these are not the actual panels they are close reproductions of how the car looked. The chassis is carbon fiber, the panels were handmade, the engine is a late model T5 (turbo five cylinder), the transmission is from a 960.

Basically, this is just straight up bad ass. It was unveiled at the Volvo Museum a few days ago and will soon make its way over to the US via SEMA. More pictures and an example of what the original car looked like, post jump.
