2008 Vancouver Autoshow Press Day

April 3, 2008

On Friday 28th, I attended the Press Preview Day for the Vancouver Autoshow. Of the three top Canadian International Autoshow, the Vancouver show is perhaps the smallest one (Toronto and Montreal being the larger). The west coast is generally one of the last stops of the auto show parade. Having said that, all the major players still showed up, since after all, Vancouver is home to some of the richest population in Canada, with some sprinkling of wealthy foreigners wishing to plunk their base in a relatively calm and peaceful city.

March 31, 2008

Ahh, the open road. Who doesn’t like a trip to nowhere, with no schedules, worries, or problems glutting up the way? I mean, if you don’t count gas, or lodging, or baggage, or food, which begs the question… Read the rest of this entry »

A Little Trans-Am for Your Weekend

March 28, 2008

Although the Trans-Am racing series is all but defunct these days, but in the 60’s and 70’s, it was one of the many places where American Manufacturers came together to beat the hell out of each other both on the track and in sales. The Boss 302, Z-28, Javelin and AAR ‘Cuda all battled side-by-side in a bid for understeer glory. To see one of these things in action is nothing short of legendary, so I thought I’d share this doozy of a video I found while avoiding more work browsing YouTube. Enjoy (turn the volume WAAAAAAAY up), and have a great weekend!

So the owner of a Skyline works a specialized dealership. In walks a guy who appears to be pretty serious about purchasing it. He comes in a second day and the owner allows a solo test drive. A ten minute test drive then turns into grand theft auto.

The (former) owner then posts on a local Canadian automotive forum, with pictures of the car and a description of the thief. Soon, half of the damn forum is on a bounty hunt mission to catch this guy.

So You Wanna Draw Your Car, Huh?

If cars are rolling pieces of art, than what better than the car to be the subject of art? I’m sure some of us recall the grade-school book: How to Draw Cars, and struggling with the techniques explained in the text, only to end up using the supplied tracing paper to “draw” what our heart desired. For those of you who still desire to learn how to draw your favorites, with or without tracing paper, there is hope. Read the rest of this entry »

You are probably thinking, “wtf, I thought this was a car blog.”

Well, it mostly is, but it is also pop culture and all that jazz.  Plus, I will write what I want to.

Anyways, bar none, Top Chef is one of the best television shows on the tube.  No joke.  And I hate reality tv.  I like to limit my tv time to Lost and… well that’s about it.

Anyways, Toyota is the head sponsor of Top Chef Chicago, which just premiered last night.  So every other break you are stuck watching a crappy Toyota spot and then cut back to the show where the Rav4 or whatever cruises gracefully into the Whole Foods market.  Annoying.

Anyways, did anyone else watch?  Have a top pick?  My pick is Andrew, mainly because he wears tailored jeans and Cole Haan slip ons–he has to be a car guy.  Plus he says “mf’er” every other word.  But honestly, none of them really wowed me.  Oh and of all the pizza joints in Chicago, why Uno!?

Ok, first, I have not seen Transformers.  Nor do I have any desire to do so.  That being said, I have heard from numerous people that it was actually a pretty good flick.  So, I may consider checking it out.

Second, pretty much every Michael Bay film has sucked.  The Island would have had promise if anyone besides him had directed it.

Well, guess what Michael Bay has announced General Motor’s long form commercial Transformer’s 2.  On his site, which I frequent often, is a countdown timer for the release of Transformer’s 2.  As of this writing, it’s some odd 471 days away.

Did the movie deserve a sequel?  Curious to hear your thoughts.
