GM is supplying the Academy Awards with a 75 vehicle fleet comprised of GMC Yukon Hybrid, Chevy Equinox Fuel Cell, or the FlexFuel GMC Yukon.  Looks like they are bringing the green to the red carpet (insert more witty plays on green tech and red carpet).

I guess it helps get the word out.  But, when I think celebrities, I don’t really think Yukons and Equinox’es.  I would rather see them clamoring out of a Aston or Porsche.  Oh who am I kidding, I won’t watch it anyways.

Bullrun or Bull$#!t?

cannonball.jpg

The old Cannonball Runs of the 70’s seems to be the inspiration for a lot of folks to get out on the highways and drive as fast as possible. Usually this is disorganized, sporadic, and usually ends with a hefty ticket or fine. Sometimes, however, this trend becomes more of an underground sport, prompting people all over the world to race from one point to another over long distances on public roads.

Last night, I happened to stumble upon superspeeders.com, and it got me thinking about the whole idea of speeding, the rush, the excitement, the danger of it. I won’t lie, I’ve done it (along with just about everyone else on the face of the planet). But I gotta know, what’s your opinion of people who speed habitually, like the good folks at SuperSpeeders?

I didn’t think it could get much worse than, mf’ing snakes on the mf’ing Cayenne. But it can. German tuner, WaM (wheelsandmore), has aborted created some ridiculous interesting wheels for this CLS55. The chrome 20’s are adorned with hundreds of Swarovski crystals. If that isn’t good enough, WaM will substitute real diamonds. They also did some bumper work, added some carbon fiber. And well, a bigger price tag. Price for the conversion runs in at 175,000 euros. Which is like nine million US dollars. That doesn’t include the cost of the car. Oh, they supposedly also managed to pull 600hp out of the motor.

Detail shots of the wheels follow

Ok, for those of you that didn’t know, I am a HUGE Mustang fan. There’s just nothing like them. Sure, you can have your Nissan this, or your BMW that, but nothing beats the feel of a Mustang. It’s a visceral thing. Well, today as I was busily scouring the internet for some automotive appeasement, I came across this: Jay Leno drives Mustang.

What else can I say? Turn the volume up, set the lights low, and enjoy.

On a quick visit to TheTruthAboutCars.com, Brock Yates’ article hit me like a ton of bricks. An angry, cantankerous pile of bricks. Mr. Yates is known in almost every major automotve circle on earth, and yet he found something, or rather, MANY things to get angry excited about. Not only was Car and Driver a “pale shadow of its former self,” but Yates made sure to endear his new audience with a style of writing that can only be feuled by a Barry-Bondsesque kind of ‘roid rage. I’ll be the first to admit that I love being lambasted by a grumpy old man, but Yates took things further. Read the rest of this entry »

Fast and Furious 4 is filming early this year, and I heard on Extra (in between reports of Britney flipping the f out) that Vin Diesel is supposed to be in it. (Yay?)

Of course, they are gonna need some fine whips for this epic!

Check out what kind of cars they are looking for after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

What’s the deal with NBC?!

You may remember that NBC is in the works to bring the hugely popular British car-themed talk show Top Gear to America. Rumors were wild about who would host, since the trio on the UK version could make watching paint dry an award-winning ratings juggernaut. Read the rest of this entry »

Kitt does not approve of valets

January 17, 2008

Posted by Chris

Kitt is not a fan of valets, according to this recent NBC commercial/promotion for the upcoming Knight Rider tv show… further proof that the writer’s strike is hurting all of us.  I wish my girlfriend’s 9-5 could valet itself, our valet last night forgot where he parked the car, although it was pretty funny watching him sprint back and fourth in 14 degree weather.
