From the parking lot to the runway

Ok, so this is mildly embarrassing, and dad if you are reading this…I still like girls (not that there’s a problem with that).  But, I have a weird habit of watching Bravo’s Project Runway.  Usually, the Saturn sponsorship of the show feels a bit forced.  But, GM/Saturn/Bravo did a good job on this one.  In the most recent show, they designers had to pillage through five new Saturn Vue Hybrids and use material from them to make their designs.

The results were rather surprising, seat belts were the most popular material, but shift boots, seat covers, etc also helped piece together the outfits.  And finally, the whiny guy with the expanded earrings got the boot.  now if only Blayne would get kicked off, I am sick of hearing “-ilicious.”  If you are interested in a re-cap, read here.

It was recently found that in a study based on sales data, white is the most popular color for vehicles in the U.S., beating out former frontrunner, silver, for the title. This begs the question: What’s the color you prefer on your vehicle? Read the rest of this entry »

Money =/= taste

I didn’t think it could get much worse than, mf’ing snakes on the mf’ing Cayenne. But it can. German tuner, WaM (wheelsandmore), has aborted created some ridiculous interesting wheels for this CLS55. The chrome 20’s are adorned with hundreds of Swarovski crystals. If that isn’t good enough, WaM will substitute real diamonds. They also did some bumper work, added some carbon fiber. And well, a bigger price tag. Price for the conversion runs in at 175,000 euros. Which is like nine million US dollars. That doesn’t include the cost of the car. Oh, they supposedly also managed to pull 600hp out of the motor.

Most kick ass watch, ever?

Hot damn. We all can agree that the Gulf livery is probably the best race scheme ever. Right? Then you will probably also agree that this is one of the coolest watches you have seen.

It’s made by Tag Heuer, who claims that this watch was immortalized in 1970 by Steve McQueen who wore it in the movie, Le Mans. It’s a tribute to the Porsche 917 Gulf that was in the film.

American Style

February 4, 2008

Defining style is a hard thing to do, especially when it’s applied to cars. Everyone has their own opinions, and I want to hear yours today. For me, American style gets no better than a Pre-War Lincoln-Zephyr, especially the 1939 coupe. Long, bold and beautiful, Lincoln Zephyrs were for the well-to do, without appearing snobbish and overdone, more like ships prowing icy North Atlantic waters. Resplendent in varying shades of cream, black and brown, to me these cars are the pinnacle of American style. It appears that Lincoln is going to try this approach again with the new MKS, which looks completely Lincoln, and totally American. The waterfall grille is an especially nice touch, in my personal opinion. But enough about my thoughts, what do you see as the most stylish American car ever made?

Quick teaser picture.  I now have in my possession a limited run of die-cut culture|garage vinyl stickers.  I have them in white and silver.  The good news, I am paying for them out of pocket.  The bad news, I haven’t set up a P.O. box yet.  So I won’t start shipping until next week.  But hurry and get your envelope and stamp ready.  All you need to do is send a self addressed stamped envelope and an email to me.  But wait, for me to post the P.O. box before you bombard me with emails.  The next run of stickers will cost $2.50 each.

What’s better than owning a Porsche 997 GT3 RS? Owning a matching pair of shoes to heel-and-toe and look good doing it.

For those in the know, the Nike Air Max Light is a classic, most shoe aficionados have at least one pair of them stashed in the closet somewhere.

Dutch sneaker boutique Purchaze teamed up with creative collective Leyp to create the Nike Air Max Light GT3 RS, a Porsche themed Nike Air Max.

This relationship began when the Purchaze team acquired a Porsche Cayman S for promotional purposes. The Air Max Light was in essence returning the favor. The four colors seen here are all based on four colors of the GT3 RS on the market. You will find also the Porsche crest logo on the tongue.

On the 27th of December Leyp and Purchaze presented the four pairs to the Porsche staff, who are going to wear these kicks in their Porsche racing crews’ pit team. All of the Porsche members were very thrilled about their GT3 RS shoes, also because these are even rarer than the exclusive cars they make.

If you have met with a group of car guys before there were likely, jorts and ugly sandals involved. Well here at culture|garage we like to push forth “car guy” fashion. We already told you about car coats and driving gloves. And if you happen to be a chick, or cross dresser, we also told you about the convertible heels. Now let’s chat driving shoes… Vans are not driving shoes, they are for people that don’t wash themselves and use skateboards and pierce their lips. While I love Speed Cats as much as the next guy, I decided to take a step into the more sophisticated (sarcasm) realm of driving shoes. Enter Clark Grips. These shoes are incredible. Extremely light weight, look good with dress casual attire or eurohemmed jeans ;) I even managed to give them some track time this summer. I will venture to say, I like them more than Speed Cats, they are more comfortable, look better and the sole allows you to “feel” the pedals better. You can pick up a pair here.
