Cuda-Challenger Forum= E-Body Heaven

May 22, 2008

Let’s say that somewhere between the Vanishing Point and the rear end housing on Nash Bridges ‘Cuda, there exists a place where the E-body reigns supreme. It smells of gasoline and tranny fluid, and it has the air of a bench racing session to it. There’s banter and good-natured ribbing, as well as great tech stuff, just like the speed shops of yore. This place exists, and it is fueled by a kind of automotive enthusiasm only Mopar guys can summon- it’s the forums at cuda-challenger.com, the Parthenon of the ‘Cuda, the Taj Mahal of the Challenger. So I posted this initially, just some pictures with little detail beyond the fact that speeding and Integra and a tree don’t mix all that well.  Well here is a bit of an update.  A young couple was traveling at ohhhh, 140mph.  ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY miles per hour.  On a public road.  At that speed, the rear tire blew out.  The girl lost control of the ITR and veered off the road and INTO A FREAKING TREE at ONE HUNDRED miles per hour.

They shouldn’t be alive.  But they are.  Which is good, because they have a young daughter, who thankfully wasn’t in the car.  Here’s the other part of the story…they didn’t have insurance.  SERIOUSLY, WTF!?  FYI, don’t buy Tenzo R seats or pimp your car out if you aren’t going to pay insurance.

I feel bad for them.  Yeah it sucks, they are both in the hospital recovering.  But if they had blown a tire at 140mph and nailed a family in a van, I am sure I would be a lot less compassionate.

Please don’t drive like a dumb ass.  K, thanks.

Our fellow site member, b-dash, is big into the outdoor sports.  Lucky for us, he is also into cars.  This was spotted on Mountainbuzz.com, an outdoor activity forum.  Apparently, some buddies were hoping to go kayaking.  They parked the car across the street, left it running with the e-brake engaged, to go check out if the spot was good enough to deploy the kayaks.  Unfortunately, the car was rather interested, it crossed two lanes and then plunged into the Payette River.

From there it took a spin down the rapids.  Remarkably, the car was still running when the tow truck pulled it from the river.  Check out the thumbs below or view a video from the local news station here.

Spotted on BimmerForums, this poor guy was cruising down the highway in his E36 when all of the sudden wheels that look to have been fired off of a Donk waxed his car.  The damage to the car sucks.  But let’s be realistic, cars can be replaced…life can’t.  Luckily, the driver survived, minus a hole in his throat, a potentially broken shoulder and abrasions from the splintered glass.  View this link for more pictures.

So the owner of a Skyline works a specialized dealership. In walks a guy who appears to be pretty serious about purchasing it. He comes in a second day and the owner allows a solo test drive. A ten minute test drive then turns into grand theft auto.

The (former) owner then posts on a local Canadian automotive forum, with pictures of the car and a description of the thief. Soon, half of the damn forum is on a bounty hunt mission to catch this guy.

Okay, okay, I know, bad joke. All kidding aside, FocalJet is one of the most active communities devoted to Ford’s trademark econo-hatch, the Ford Focus. The FocalJet site has all sorts o’ good stuff, from news and reviews, to helpful tech advice and interesting cross-forum banter. Read the rest of this entry »

Sport bike guys can be kind of weird

So my friend and other LeMons co-driver is into bikes.  And he has always told me that the guys he ride with are an interesting crowd.  I just kind of took his word for it.  Until I visited mnsportbikeriders.com, these guys are pretty intense.

Seems to be a pretty solid community with group tuning sessions, rides, etc.  But the fun stuff is that they all seem to have fetishes for fiddys–50cc bikes.  During the off season (this is Minnesota) they rent out a local in-door karting center, come in full gear and drop knee (or whatever serious bikers call it).

Apparently they spent all their money on bikes and gear because the images look like they were taken with a 1997 Kodak digital.  I also found some videos of them stuntin (I am so baller), got to love the obligatory fat guy who shows up on a scooter and wheelies for about two feet (post jump video), but he still has more talent then I do.

If you see anything cool on your local forums, feel free to send them in, with a link and a title of “forum fun.”

Thanks to reader, Chet, for sending this one through. He spotted this on Honda-Tech and thought it would be a good one to share with the masses. The poster was installing some new struts and coilovers and his OEM bumpstops had decayed. So rather than paying $20 each, he made a trip to Pet Smart and picked up a Kong. If you aren’t a dog owner, a Kong is pretty much the most bad ass toy a dog could ever have… to a lay person it’s hard red rubbery plasticy thingy that you stuff peanut butter in. Anyways, he chopped it all up, drilled and did some other stuff and then managed to have them work out as bump stops. Pretty cool. Or something like that.
