Participating in 24 Hours of LeMons, requires a lot of diligence, primarily, following a ton of rules and actually adhering to the $500 rule (safety equipment doesn’t count).  Below is our story on the 1991 Saab 9000 we will  be running in LeMons.

Official: we ain’t bullshitting, proof documentation

Unlike the other Nancies, who somehow managed to run Ford Mustang Cobras or late model Impalas, we opted to actually follow the rules.

Unfortunately, being the “good guys” was a difficult f’ing task. Cheating would have been much more fruitful.

So here’s the back story. We picked up this 1991 Saab 9000 as a group of friends, last last year; our intention was to turn it into a track rat and rallyx car. Then we got bored. Some of us got married. Others of us had engagements canceled. In other words, shit happened. Keep going, more after the jump.

It’s 24 Hours of Lemon’s week at c|g

You may remember back in December when culture|garage announced that they would be attempting the 24 Hours of LeMons in Toledo, OH.  Hell, we even called out Autoblog and Jalopnik and challenged them to a duel.  Unfortunately, they Nancied out and won’t be competing in Toledo.

Well not only are we competing, but we will also be updating live during the race.  Expect our coverage to be just like the NYIAS, quick but less substantial then all the other blogs. ;)

And if you want to join the team, shoot us an email and we can meet up.  So you want to follow along?  Just keep your eye’s planted on culturegarage.com or visit this link.

Here’s a hint of what is to come.  Our 24 Hours of Lemons team is getting closer and closer to d-day.  We pick up the RV on Thursday and then begin the trek to wonderful Toledo.  Who knows if we will have the best car.  But it is undeniable that we will have the best looking car.

Full pictures to come post paint and graphics.  In the mean time, feel free to pick up a Cougar Bait team shirt from our merchandise store.

Looks like the ‘ol UAW gremlins are at it again. This week, GM has announced a massive recall on recently manufactured vehicles due to a major fault in the windshield wiper system. It catches on fire. Read the rest of this entry »

Well, it’s getting closer.  The c|g 24 Hours of LeMons team will be headed to Toledo soon.  After some issues with…well not having a motor or transmission, we switched from a 1995 Saab 9000 to a 1991 Saab 9000.  After a lot of work the last few weeks we have a car that is actually running.

Our plans are to take it to Brainerd International for a shakedown session and see just how well this thing does.  Keep your fingers crossed for us.  We will be sure to update with pictures and video.

We just received word that the c|g contingent has been accepted to the 24 Hours of Lemons race this fall at Toledo Speedway.  Unsure of what Lemons is?  Just do a quick site search and you can see we have covered events and even challenged Jalopnik to a duel.  Can’t express the excitement.

We’ve all seen them, derelict beside roads and old buildings. In alleyways and junkyards alike, they sit, motionless, frozen in time, slowly, but surely, giving way to Mother Earth’s icy grasp, fading into memory. They are the cars that we once loved, cruising main, going to the beach, going to the dragstrip. They sit, rotting, until there is nothing left, or until they are scrapped, compressed and made into something else. This is the website devoted to these cars, a fitting epitaph, eulogy and obituary all rolled into one for these once fine machines: Carsinbarns.com Read the rest of this entry »

It shouldn’t have happened- another answer to a question nobody asked, but it happened. The El Camino is looking to make a U.S. comeback tour. The new El Camino is expected to be badged as a Pontiac, and sold in the U.S. as a derivative of the Austrailian “ute” platform (pictured above). Shades of the “GTO” methinks.
