1 CommentUnfortunately, c|g couldn’t bring you live coverage from this Rally America event. But we will do our best to keep you updated. The 100 Acre Wood rally takes place in the middle of Missouri. Drivers consider this one of the fastest events in the series. Some of the “usuals” didn’t have that great of showings at Sno*Drift and are hoping to redeem themselves at 100 Acre Wood; Block finished fifth, Pastrana slaughtered a deer and took 25th, Pinker had problems as well.
Subaru Rally Team driver, Ken Block, told Rally America, “My goal is to win 100 Acre Wood for the third year in a row, the roads are very fast and flowing. They are some of my favorite roads in the championship and fit my driving style very well. I plan on going flat out.”
We will keep you as close to the information as possible, the rally kicks off mid-day and ends late Saturday evening.

Michael Arndt apparently has a surplus of a few things:
1. matchsticks, 956,000 to be precise
2. glue sticks, 1,698
3. time, six years
This guy made a scale model of a Mercedes McLaren 4/41 Formula One car. This German man set out over six years with six thousand Euro and built this full scale model in his kitchen. It can be torn down in 45 seperate pieces for ease transportation to other matchbuilding conventions. FYI, matchbuilding conventions are only slighly cooler than comic book/Star Wars conventions.
Keep going for more pictures…

Just a couple days ago the Central Europe Rally has been announced which is taking place instead of the Dakar Rally 2008 that has been canceled to run in Saharan Africa this year.
The president of the Dakar Rally organizing body Amaury Sport Organization (ASO), Patrice Clerc, has confirmed that next year’s race will take place in South America. And there is no date mentioned when the Dakar Rally will be returning to Africa.
The Dakar Rally 2009 will take place in Argentina and Chile, running a 9,000km route starting and arriving in Buenos Aires in January next year.
The Central Europe Rally is the first new series of events that the ASO planned on adding to the Dakar Rally and will be joining the Dakar Rally in the racing calendar starting in 2009.

BMW used Chicago’s Auto Show to announce their return to the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) next year with two race-prepped versions of the E92 M3 coupe, set to race in the GT2 class.
The race car features 485hp version of the 4.0L high-rev V8 engine, race-tuned chassis, and a significantly wider and lighter body with an abundance of carbon fiber parts.
The aerokit is quite aggressive to previous BMW race cars and it was developed using numerous F1 techniques including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and wind tunnel analysis.
The car also features a new POWER400 ECU system that does away with conventional relays and fuses and saves even more weight.
I wonder if you can get those wheels on the stock E92 ///M3?

Porsche has unveiled its GT3 Cup club car this December but already that was too slow for some of us. Porsche now has released the ‘S’ variant of the GT3 Cup car which like the standard version, is based on the 911 GT3 RS.
What the GT3 Cup S offers is a slight power upgrade, a fully stripped interior, and a special 6-speed sequential tranny.
The new S gets a slight bump in power of 20 hp courtesy of some ECU mods and a new exhaust system. Power output now is 440 hp compared to the non-S model’s 420hp. Maximum torque remains the same 440Nm at 7,250rpm.
A couple of suspension tweaks have been taken from the GT3 RSR car which races in the GT2 class. Also braking performance has been improved for the added power.
Car is said to be released in April for €250,000 and only 265 examples will be produced of the non-S variant, so expect production of the GT3 Cup S to be even more limited.

Ok, for those of you that didn’t know, I am a HUGE Mustang fan. There’s just nothing like them. Sure, you can have your Nissan this, or your BMW that, but nothing beats the feel of a Mustang. It’s a visceral thing. Well, today as I was busily scouring the internet for some automotive appeasement, I came across this: Jay Leno drives Mustang.
What else can I say? Turn the volume up, set the lights low, and enjoy.
