Brainerd Raceway, Brainerd, Minn.- The NHRA is coming to Minnie-soda this weekend, and hopefully Chris will be reporting to Brainerd to experience some straight-line racing…or at least some fine funnel cakes. Oh, and according to the website description, there’s plenty of good fishing…so if the racing isn’t exactly enthralling, you can munch on some Pike with your funnel cakes. Anyhow, all of the racing can be seen on ESPN 2, with Qualifying being shown on the 9th from 6-8PM, Eliminations on the 10th, from 10PM to 1AM, and a repeat of Eliminations on the 13th, from 3-5AM. All times EST. Read the rest of this entry »

Pacific Raceways, Seattle, WA- Tony Bartone. What, never heard of him? That’s a shame, as he is one of the most talented drivers in the NHRA, and he just took his first Funny Car victory over the weekend. A veteran of alcohol racing, Bartone hadn’t managed to take an overall win in 119 starts in his professional career. 119. Read the rest of this entry »

Warren, MI- Here’s the news that everyone nobody saw coming- the Chevrolet Camaro is back. In a brief 4:00 EST reveal at GM’s Warren facility, Ed Wellburn and Ed Peper- a couple of the big shots in charge of the Camaro project, gave a short scpiel discussing the car and it’s fantasicalness. While the crowd of journalists looked on, the production car rolled into the studio, and was set upon by said journalists soon after. Meanwhile, over at 5thgen.org, site staff posted the color palette and technical specs for the General-Motivated pony car. Big thanks to Jalopnik for posting a feed of the live reveal on their site.

Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, Co.- Tinfoil-hat wearing panicmongers and their followers (this author included) cast a grim eye on the action on Sunday at Bandimere, as the NHRA tested it’s inagural 1,000-foot contest in both Top Fuel and Funny Car. Although the four horsemen did not ride out of the clouds this past weekend, several winners emerged once all was said and done. Read the rest of this entry »

Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, Co- Bandimere is the bane of crewchiefs and drivers alike, as the air is thin and the competition closer there than at other tracks. Downforce is hard to come by, and tuning nitro motors is a nightmare at altitude- all factors that will make for some excellent racing in the rocky mountain region, July 11-13. I’m about as sure of the sun rising tomorrow as I am of the date of the apocalypse- and perhaps it has already come, in light of this news. In a shocking statement issued today, the NHRA has mandated that Top Fuel and Funny Car classes will now be run to the 1,000 foot mark in all NHRA-sanctioned events. I know, I know, my heart stopped for a second when I read that, too. Read the rest of this entry »
