An allegedy drunk driver passed out at the wheel of the car.  As the car continued to careen out of control, it went head on into a pack of cyclists in a bike race in Monterey, Mexico.  One of the riders was killed, others were likely injured.  Police responded in-time to stop the attempted lynching on the driver.  Be careful out there guys.  Damn shame.

NHRA, NASCAR Weekend Wrap-Up

Heartland Park Topeka- Although “ladies’ night” isn’t exactly a PC description of the NHRA lately, you can certainly see why it is an apt one. Hillary Will took down Larry Dixon this weekend in Kansas to claim her first Top Fuel title. Will also bested Morgan Lucas and Cory McClenethan’s efforts, knocking them out in the rounds proceeding the final. Read the rest of this entry »

Life. Liberty. And the Pursuit.

Oops.  Fail.  Payam Sabo drove out on the beach (illegally) to watch the sunrise in his 2008 Cadillac Escalade (great gas mileage).  As the tide began to come in, he quickly realized he was stuck in the sand.  Like a good captain, he stayed with his vessel.  Well, until the police ordered him out.  To add further insult to injury, the vehicle was impounded, and Sabo was given a citation.

One week after I purchased my iPhone, I sold my TomTom GPS.  There was just no longer a need for it.  With my iPhone, I could readily search for locations, i.e. “home depot, minneapolis, mn” and then see how far they were from my current location.  I pick the location I want and then have it route the directions based on my current location.  As Apple prepares to release iPhone 2.0, it is expected that the GPS function and the Google mapping capabilities will be even better.  Which is kind of scary in a Big Brother type way. Popular Mechanics recently spoke with the president of an unnamed GPS manufacturer, who claimed he was, “scared shitless.”  It will be interesting to watch.

NHRA, NASCAR Weekend Wrap-Up

Atlanta Dragway- Ashley Force was the winner this weekend in Atlanta, taking down her father, John Force, in the final round. It was an all-around good weekend for Castrol/ John Force Racing, with the patriarch coming in second, and Ford-linked Bob Tasca III going down in the semis to Force. It was a historic day in Funny Car, where if senior Force were to win, it would have been his one-bazillionth career win, and having Ashley win gave her both her first overall victory, and the first victory by a female in Funny Car, one of the most hotly contested categories in the PowerADE drag racing series. On that note, “Full Throttle,” a Coca-Cola brand, will be sponsoring the series beginning next year, with a contract to do so until 2013. Read the rest of this entry »

Nurburgring, Nurburg, Ger- For some, today is a red letter day of the first order, as the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro has finally been captured on film-and in fine form. Spotted at Germany’s famed “Nurburgring,” the Camaro seemed to be testing, most likely to correct any glitches or bugs in the production car. Read the rest of this entry »

NHRA, NASCAR, IRL Weekend Wrap-Up

April 21, 2008

Twin Ring Motegi, Tokyo- Although it has been reported on several websites and news programs already, it is worth noting in today’s Wrap-Up that Danica Patrick has become the first female driver to take the overall win at an IRL event. How the race was won notwithstanding, Patrick did an outstanding job driving, as well as persevering in a sport that is male-dominated. Other sources that have been sharing this story have received a LOT of Chauvinistic feedback (yes, fellas, you just got dusted by a female, get over yourselves), however I believe I speak for the C|G staff when we say congratulations, Danica, you deserved it. Helio Castroneves took second, with Scott Dixon bringing home third. Read the rest of this entry »
