Team Cougar Bait nearing completion

Posted by Chris on September 23, 2009

Oh man. We are so close to being done with this year’s car. Still a few things left, a seat restraint (catches the seat if the rails fail), new performance brakes from Raybestos, crotch strap for the six point harness, finishing up covering the fuel pump and fuel lines, wire the fourth running/brake light, flushing the engine coolant, and adding the roll bar padding. Not bad. And we leave a week from today.

Hopefully later this week we will also be applying all of our sponsor decals and finishing up the livery. You can probably see the route we are going with this one, mimicking Ken Block’s …

Team Cougar Bait prepares for Lamest Days

Posted by Chris on September 21, 2009

It’s been awhile, but here’s a bit of an update on our latest entrant into the 24 Hours of Lemons, Lamest Days, at Nelson Ledges.

The car started out as a crappy 1994 Saab 900 V6. It’s still crappy. Just painted really well. The car had all sorts of issues, wheel bearings blowing up, seized pulleys, arcing spark plug wires, blown valve cover gaskets dumping oil into the spark plug galleys and various other awesome things. So here it stands, just nine days before we leave for the race and we still haven’t given the car a good flogging.

The good news, well, our cage and safety restraints kick …

24 Hours of Lemons: time lapse car prep

Posted by Chris on July 05, 2009

The Cougar Bait team gathered Friday to continue stripping down the car. The paint has now been fully sanded and is ready to be cleaned and primed. The interior has all been stripped out and we finally got the car running. However, there's quite a miss and it's going to need some tweaking and tuning before it's set and ready to go. The next big step will be getting the cage welded in. At least we have until October.

Working on the 24hrs of Lemons car

Well CB2 (Cougar Bait 2) is off and running. True to name, while stripping the interior down, we came across a size 32B bra. It smelled like Elizabeth Taylor's White Diamonds. Ok that's a lie. The car is a 1994 Saab 900 (V6) that we picked up for ~$200.

The body is a little rough, and it run's pretty haggared, but is an excellent starting point for this year's 24 Hours of Lemons campaign.

As it sits right now, the interior has been gutted, all the foam, sound deadening, etc is gone. We've even started test fitting the roll cage. We're …

Jalopnik gives credit

Posted by Chris on September 18, 2008

Jalopnik gives team Cougar Bait/culture|garage a bone in their latest Lemons write-up. We had originally challenged them, back in the day. They said they weren't coming. Then we found out they were. Unfortunately, they kind of decided at the last minute. Which left them with a car that wouldn't pass tech.

Luckily, we crashed. We offered up our LV stenciled hood as scrap so they could get their sunroof issue fixed. They finally get on track later that afternoon and their Celica was hauling ass. That is until the wheel decided to shoot off the …
