Question of the Week

Seeing as how the SUV is considered dead by most, I thought it pertinent this week to talk not about the Prius or any other technologically-advanced vehicles, but rather, the Geo Metro. I used to- wait, scratch that- I look down on the Metro like a food critic does McDonald’s, and so I have never considered it a particularly good car. But lately, some sources have reported that Metro sales are up (used, natch) due to the gas crunch. I’m a bit leery of how this data was gathered, but nonetheless, I want to hear about your experiences with the little Metro this week. Is it the American Mini Cooper? Is it a pile ‘o crap? What are your experiences/impressions of the Metro, and why?

We just received word that the c|g contingent has been accepted to the 24 Hours of Lemons race this fall at Toledo Speedway.  Unsure of what Lemons is?  Just do a quick site search and you can see we have covered events and even challenged Jalopnik to a duel.  Can’t express the excitement.

Bandimere Speedway, Morrison, Co- Bandimere is the bane of crewchiefs and drivers alike, as the air is thin and the competition closer there than at other tracks. Downforce is hard to come by, and tuning nitro motors is a nightmare at altitude- all factors that will make for some excellent racing in the rocky mountain region, July 11-13. Hope you haven’t forgot about our Reader Photo Gallery (look to the left side of the page).  Ricky Flores has had a few other pictures featured on c|g and it looks like he has some new ones up.  My favorite is likely the Beatle, featured above.  If you want your shots shared with the world, just add the tag “culturegarage” when you are tagging your uploads in Flickr

I’m about as sure of the sun rising tomorrow as I am of the date of the apocalypse- and perhaps it has already come, in light of this news. In a shocking statement issued today, the NHRA has mandated that Top Fuel and Funny Car classes will now be run to the 1,000 foot mark in all NHRA-sanctioned events. I know, I know, my heart stopped for a second when I read that, too. Read the rest of this entry »

The Alfa 8C Competizione. Probably the finest Alfa-Romeo to come out of Italy- it flows, it’s powerful, and it is the sweetheart of many auto-journos worldwide. In fact, Alfa-Romeo has a proud history of being the heartthrob of any and all car enthusiasts who hate themselves enough to go through the perpetual struggle that is an Alfa. So what about you? Could you give up your STi for one? Read the rest of this entry »

Norwalk, OH- Doug Herbert took out the top guys in Top Fuel this past weekend-wait, what’s that you say? Who is Doug Herbert? Herbert, who drives for Snap-On racing, is only the latest driver to plow through the always-exciting ranks of Top Fuel. Herbert dedicated the race to his sons, who were killed in an automobile accident in January. Read the rest of this entry »

C|G Goes to Goodguys

Loveland, Co- A strong wind whips out to the East here, where trees are sparse and livestock outnumber people. Just West of Greeley, Colorado, the Budweiser Events Center is home to stock shows, rodeos and other agriculturally-related events. For one weekend during every summer, however, one of the largest car shows in the Rocky Mountain region takes place here- the Goodguys Colorado Nationals. C|G paid a visit to this year’s event- and it was well worth the trip. Read the rest of this entry »
